Suffering with anxiety, sleep issues, IBS or gut issues? Talk to your doctor about this medication Quetiapine, brand name Seroquel.
Quetiapine is a mood stabiliser and frequently prescribed antipsychotic drug for Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, and Dementia, But it is “not used” just for treating psychosis.. At teeny doses, (like a 10th of whats recommended for bipolar disorder) it is used “off label” to treat a myriad of health conditions..To first explain what off label prescribing is. Doctors who have lots of experience with a drug often use it to treat a disease or medical condition that it is not approved to treat.
Quetiapine is used off label for its calming and sedative properties. We know now that the gut and the brain are talking to each other all the time. If a person is frequently stressed or is an anxious person this alone if not treated over a number of years can cause digestion to slow down, stomach acid to turn off, bacterial or fungal overgrowth to occur, SIBO, SIFO, leaky gut, food sensitivities the list goes on. A calm brain equals a calm gut. 12.5mg of quetiapine at night can help a persons gut issues resolve. I wish i had known about this drug 20 years ago. It keeps my gut calm so i can digest my food daily. If i get stressed i cant digest properly. Outside of that i am probably THE best version of myself when im on this medicine. Cool Calm and collected all the time with no side effects except Dry mouth. This is the most common symptom which is alleviated simply by drinking more water. Win win.
It used off label by doctors for womens health issues. Like insomnia, difficulties staying asleep, over thinking, rumination, anxiety, panic, agitation, irritability, anger, rage, and all sorts of mood issues that can be caused by hormonal imbalances like those that occur in PMS, PMDD and peri/menopause. I find it excellent for treating my perimenopausal symptoms which have worsened with hormone loss and long term anxiety symptoms due to a very traumatic childhood and family life. Doses 12.5mg to 100mg usually are sufficient to help most mood related disorder.
