About Me – Fiona Polished Sligo (aka Fee)

To do this you need a combination of a talented hair & makeup artist, lash & brow specialist/ beautician aswell as glowing skin, a fit lean body, healthy hair and nails, and a confident happy positive mind set. You need to be nourished from the inside as well as the outside. This is what makes us look “Polished“. My aim personally and professionally through my work is to help you be the best version of yourself to survive in our increasingly challenging world. And this is the ethos for my company POLISHED.
My name is Fiona Brady Murphy. I’m 42, a nutrition and gut health coach, hair & makeup artist, a beauty & skin therapist & a lash/brow/nail tech. I am married, I have 2 small children and I live and work part-time from a studio in my home in Carney, Drumcliffe, Co Sligo. I also do some mobile hair & makeup work in the premium wedding hotel venues across the north west. I was born in Dublin. My mum getting a job in Sligo as a Public Health Nurse. I lived and was reared in Ballygawley. I was good at school and I loved biology as well as art. I knew at 15 years of age I wanted to work with my hands and in caring for others. I am in business for 11 years.
Why Do I Care So Much?
I had very bad acne from 12 years of age and have spent so much time and money in derma clinics and beauty salons getting treated all over the country. Through my 20s i explored constant treats like getting my nails, my hair done and doing my makeup in ways that made me look and feel better about looking at myself in the mirror. Aged 38 i was diagnosed with SIBO and Fodmap sensitivities and realised my acne was all down to my gut health. Much of my interest in skincare and makeup stems from this and I love helping women find solutions to their skin problems. My family did not have money to help me open me a business and because I was getting very good grades at school I was encouraged to get a degree and “a real job” and do beauty later. I did science in UCD, graduated in biochemistry and microbiology and spent 12 years working full time in various roles in hospital and industry in various laboratory type posts, in business development and in sales and marketing in skin medical and pharma industry as a rep, travelling the west and midlands of the country. But I wasnt happy or fulfilled and i knew in my heart and soul I needed to be giving, helping and creating, in beauty. So 11 years ago I started training as a nail tech (alongside working full time as a medical rep) to fulfill my lifes ambition and very quickly I was running my own business, as sligos first mobile nail tech, called Feenails, which I did mobile, for a few years, then when we built our home in in 2010, I set up a room in my home and did manicures, pedicures and a lot of gel nails for my clientele at evenings and weekends. Did you know I was the first ever salon in sligo to bring in Shellac!
I am that girl who wants to be learning, “all the time”, and I wanted to know about every single treatment there was out there to enhance how women look so as when I was travelling over east with my day job as a rep I decided to do my beauty therapy training and further Skin Training in Dublin in 2011. After that in 2012 I trained in all the add-on services, spray tan, advanced bikini waxing, eyelash extensions, yumi lashes, makeup and HD Brows as well as in teacher training, all in dubbin part time. In 2013 I was doing makeup freelance in hotels and realised doing hair would be handy to have and also i really wanted to learn how to blowdry my own curly thick mane! so in 2013 i did an upstyling and blow drying course and then realised it was high time to change my name. So Polished Hair and Beauty was born.I stayed in many hotels while working as a rep and often thought wouldn’t it be so nice if someone could come to the hotel to do my hair! so that’s where the idea came from for the other arm of the Polished business, our national mobile hair & makeup network.
I got married in 2013, had my first child in 2014, in 2015 took redundancy from the corporate world, made the best decision in my life to get off the road and go full time in my salon and develop the Polished brand nationally, around family life. I had much health issues after my 1st child was born and was being told there was nothing wrong with me medically but I pursued until I got answers. My mum was diagnosed with dementia at that time and a lot of family stress made my ongoing gut health issues worse. 5 years living with a medically undiagnosed gut health condition and caring for my mum on an ongoing basis made me question and seek answers to the fundamentals of good health, underlying issues and ultimately the desire for women to look and feel good. My background as a microbiologist has helped fast forward my beauty business into nutrition and gut health consultancy. My personal life has made me see just how important self care is for every woman and mum. To make women sparkle on the inside as well as the outside is my passion in life and keeps me going everyday. Whether that’s getting your eyebrows done, taking some time to use that skincare, examine your gut health or learn how to keep the weight off is life changing. Upskilling, doing courses and continuous reading behind the scenes is a big part of who I am as a therapist and mum. My quest for answers, knowledge and excellence continues. For myself and for my clients.
Now that Its 2022, Polished is well up and running. When you get an appointment with me at our salon headquarters in Carney, I take your whole being into consideration. I am not just another hair & makeup artist or therapist. As well as the professional expertise, the treatments I do and recommend, the advice I give you, are all based upon my years of education, training and expertise in beauty as well as in biochemistry & physiology, nutrition, sales & marketing of skin & medicinal products.

How I Do It?
You are welcome to make an appointment to come see me for anything from a simple blowdry or makeup to an in-depth skin consultation and treatment protocol to get your skin or nails camera ready for your wedding day, new job or daughters communion. I havent any set opening hours, I work by “appointment” 086-8439979, contact me and we can find you a suitable slot. I am available 7 days. I take different days off each week depending on my clients needs and my event work and of course my childrens needs.
