Im celebrating being able to eat apples in abundance now my gut is healed. From our garden. Grown from lil shoots planted 7 years ago. Free from pesticides. Im making a big fruit crumble every week for my family during autumn. I eat 2 raw apples in morning to cleanse my liver and i eat 1 later in the day as a snack.
But 3 years ago apples was something i couldnt digest. It took years to feel my body, to tune in to see this. Adding them to smoothies with other high fodmap foods was a disaster, pain, bloating, for my gut. Its not widespread knowledge that the truth is You dont have food sensitivities likely its just your gut is damaged and until that heals keeping apples and other high fodmap foods at a low quantity is useful to know. It took me 3 years of healing to get my digestion strong as i didnt have anyone to help me understand what was happening. Now iv healed i help people everyday overcome and figure out the foods they can eat and if they have SIBO or other digestive issues.
Apples are one of the most difficult fruits to digest if you have SIBO because they are high in fodmaps, the most excellent food for the gut prebiotic bacteria, but if the bacteria are in the wrong place (in the small intestine instead of being in the large intestine) then that may mean pain and bloat when eaten. If your not sure eat an apple or 2 and wait. See if your tummy reacts. Apples are an incredibly nutritious fruit that offers multiple health benefits. They’re rich in fiber and antioxidants. Eating them is linked to a lower risk of many chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Apples may also promote weight loss and improve gut and brain health.
Apples are LIKELY SAFE for most people, as long as the seeds aren’t eaten. No side effects are generally known or expected to occur with apple fruit or apple juice. Apple seeds, however, contain cyanide and are poisonous. So try eat them on a empty stomach if you are sensitive to them and if not eat several every day! Or eat stewed apples. Heat with a bit of water and sugar. Easier to digest and super healthy warm snack with cinnamon.
